Would HSB control a 1/2 acre pond with crappie from overpopulating? I have heard HSB will control fish populations without overpopulating themselves.

LOL, HBS don't reproduce ! But you do have a good question. It's tricky in 1/2 acre...put in heavy brush, with a 12' depth and you can do it. You would need to feed and/or have a heavy bgill base too.

Eastland, why heavy brush and 12' deep? I would think it would be better to have little brush so few crappie would survive and you would be growing/harvesting the original stock.
We seem to talk about different combinations but few people have said, "I've tried that. It did/didn't work".

Given numbers, HSB will all but destroy the crappie base in a pond that size...the crappie will need the brush to survive. You will also need additional forage somewhere in this equation. The 12 ft. depth provides more open water for the fish to roam and about the minimum size to survive a good drought.
