Sounds like it's good to eat. Also sounds like it would take deep water & special management skills to raise them.

If I am correct and you are referring to burbot (soemtimes called lawyer fish), the biggest prior discussion I could find was here:

Theo, why don't we try burbot/ling/eelpout as the predator in your new pond?

I suspect water temperatures in Ohio are way too warm, and I know of no source for them around here. But the biggest reason is that I can't decide whether I would want to call them burbot, lings, lawyers, or eelpouts. I kicked that question open to the family and the only suggestion was from my daughter, who thought they should be called "Dave".

If I find a source, can I put them in your new pond?

I promise you can call them whatever you want; you know, "Guvnor" fish, or whatever.

Good news is they were adult burbot, so they should pull off a spawn in just a few weeks!

Isn't it a little early to let this thread drift?
I know about ling cod. Caught some while halibut fishing in Prince William Sound, Valdez, Ak. They are UUUUgly, but do taste like lobster. If your pond is min. 500 ft. deep and 39 degrees year round, you could probably raise them. What would the forage be?

At the very least, burger, we're keeping this thread warm so Wood can chime in from Canada, and volunteer his pond for a burbot stocking.

Hey MNFISH, this type of rudeness happens all the time. Please forgive my friends, and they are my friends at campaign contrib time, for their drifting ways. BTW, if you see someting odd in the sky, it will either be the GSA DeathStar of Commander Cody.

Like these clowns, I have no idea what an eelpout is. But, it sounds like fun. If you get a line on some, let James Holt know about them and he will dern sure stock them in copious amounts. Then, we will all know about them.

Dave, No appologies needed. Some of the things these guys toss back and forth get me laughing pretty good. Since I'm so new to this forum can I ask a personal question? How long have Theo and Sunil been married?

It seems like forever, but it's only been 3 or 4 years.

I doubt that they've ever made it legal. Sorta like joined at the hip.
