I have never heard of one, maybe one out there somewhere. I was contemplating a floating water quality monitor and a system that would alert when one of whatever we are monitoring gets out of it's normal parameters. This came to mind after listening to Bob Lusk talk about water quality. I was wondering what do you guys think could logically get monitored with what technology we have available today. I would assume we could monitor, pH, temperature easy enough. Are there any devices that could actually monitor say, calcium and other minerals in the water. What things would be good to monitor? Just thought it was an interesting concept to have a floating monitor and alert system.
In Dog Beers, I've had one.

The science department in the school where I work, specializes in marine science. They have a water monitoring system that handles quite a few measurements of the Rappahannock River, which feeds into the Chesapeake bay.. I know it does Temp, PH, Turbidity, Salinity and a few others that I can check on. It sends everything back to the school via a point to point wireless connection. The head of the department has written a data logging program, to post the info to the web. I can find out who makes it.

Will do. I know it starts as a base unit and the price increases as you add modules. I'll see what I can find out.

Here is the manufacturer's site http://www.ysi.com/We have a 6600 V2 for ocean/coastal monitoring. The department chair isn't here but another person in the department said the cost was about 5K give or take. I haven't looked in depth at the site yet but it looks like they have some other versions, even a hand held. I'll get more info when the PHD gets back.
