Should a fish supplier sell you what you want or what he thinks you need?

In Dog Beers, I've had one.

Who is paying for the fish. Nuff said !

Now he can give you his opinion or he can refuse to sell you the fish but he can't make you buy anything.

I agree with ewest. The supplier can let you know if you are screwing up and what will happen, but the final decision is ultimately up to the customer. The suppliers only recourse would be to refuse to sell so that he can't be bad mouthed for screwing up somebody's pond.

IF the would-be customer had a truly horrible idea of how to stock a pond, I would expect a reputable dealer to try and talk him out of it - a little bit. If intelligent, gentle persuasion didn't work, then (as ewest said) it's either sell him those 3 BG and 10,000 LMB, or refuse the sale (as might be done to protect his own reputation and not be "the guy who sold Joe all those bass and no forage".

Alas, customer service is often at it's nadir rather than it's zenith. Yesterday, our local feed mill informed us that they probably won't be carrying a particular make of feeds much longer. It seems the last time they ordered feed from this outfit (in the interest of anonymity, I shall refer to them only by their initials - "ADM" ;\) ), the supplier told the mill they were cutting the size of the order BECAUSE OTHERWISE THE MILL'S ORDER WOULD TAKE UP TOO MUCH SPACE ON THE TRUCK!

Imagine! "You order too much merchandise from me, so I'm not going to sell you so much in the future." If that's not being told to pound sand down a rathole, I don't know what is. If you want to buy lots of stuff from me, I'll get a bigger truck.

It's the customers money. Although I agree with theo that the fish farmer should atleast try to talk the customer out of the bad decision.

My neighbor ordered 150 SMB fingerlings for a 2 acre pond with an established (if not overcrowded) LMB population. needless to say we don't have any SMB in the pond and my neighbor learned an expensive lesson. In this situation I would say both parties are at fault. The fish farmer was being greedy knowing that these fish would be devoured by the existing LMB and my neighbor is at fault for not researching his decision.

Heh heh heh... I haven't heard that one before Theo. Good one. Here are some of mine...

That would fly about as well as a lead balloon.
He's about as smart as a fence post.

Or my all time favorite...

That is about as much fun as setting my head on fire and putting it out with a hammer!

Mostly, we board horses. Other than hauling the occasional beef to the cattle sale, about all we sell are square haybales in February, in Winters when the price has tripled since the last Summer.

Yes, I am a capitalist.

I once had Nadir, the doctor gave me a prescription and I'm better now.

I actually had to look up the word Nadir, here's what I found.

1 : the point of the celestial sphere that is directly opposite the zenith and vertically downward from the observer

What?????? I'm a dang bean counter, what the heck is that supposed to mean????

2 : the lowest point

Oh OK, now I gets it.

You know this is the only forum that I read, that, in order to understand half of what is being said, I am forced to keep reference materials nearby. Stupid, stupid California public edumakshun system.
