Well I see everyone speaking of "acres" and I wonder if I'm on the right forum, but anyway here's my question:

My pond is a garden pond, its like 0.000000001 acre (that's 300 gallon pond \:\) ) with 7 koi's in it and 2 plecostomus. I want to introduce some tilapia, are they compatible? and if they are, how many can I get?

Hello Azirion and welcome to Pond Boss, we're glad ya found us. We do not descriminate here based upon pond size, color of water, percentage of vegetation cover, or adequacy of forage base. There are plenty of folks here that stock Tilapia so hang on and you'll get an informed answer.

azirion,
First, how warm is your water at the coldest point of the year?
Tilapia like it hot, cool they will not reproduce, cold they die off.
They seem to be compatible, non aggressive types, they are active eaters however and plants will fall victim to them. Either one or several of the same sex would be my recommendation, they can get big. If your water temps don't get to much below 60.
Do some searching on this site and you will find a great deal of practical info regarding them.

TIA, welcome to the PB forum.
Tilapia will do well in 0.000000001 acre (that's 300 gallon pond \:\) -IF - limited numbers of SAME SEX tilapia are stocked.
They reproduce at three months of age and your pond would become over-populated.

Sure you can add them, they will fit in just fine. But, they will die if the temps dip below 50 for an extended period of time, they are tropical fish. They also breed like crazy, so I would advise getting six females of the orange hybrid variety, they look cool and will grow large like kio.

Water will never go below 50 so I think that's good.

Thank you for your replys!
