If anyone has any info and/or insight into strip spawning LMB, I'd surely appreciate it. I'm setting up to try a little tank spawning in addition to our usual pond spawning, but want to try some strip spawning as well. Plan on using temp and HCG to push them. Had good luck doing this with walleye last month, and thought I'd give it a try with bass.
Thanks

Thanks ewest. Our "librarian" has a bunch of lit on its way as well. Was hoping someone here had some first hand experience/insight as well.

Made a half-hearted attempt at tank/strip spawning LMB, in addition to our usual pond spawning (had WAY too much going on at the time).

As far as strip spawning, I shot a few males and females with HCG at the dosages we use sucessfully with many other species.
No progression.Reshot at 48 hrs, nothing on next few 24 hr checks. We had set up in an old, unused building with very small, concrete raceways/troughs (roughly 2'X2'X10'), as no tanks available in our "regular" building. (After we started, found some lit indicating VERY high dosages of HCG needed-on the order of 18Xas high!)

We also set up a male and female in each trough, with a 2' square piece of SpawnTex mat at one end. After talking with a bunch of guys in Texas, I was SURE nothing would happen in these little tanks (They use TEXAS -SIZED ones for their tank spawning!) Used no hormones on these fish.

Temps were all over the place this spring, and I have no real control in this building. (Had HOPED to do this in regular building where I have LOTS of control).even in our ponds, fish would start and stop as temps fluctuated wildly.

Anyway, due to my lack of time, and my belief that I was wasting what time I had, with the wild temps/small, crowded tanks, we basically forgot about these fish.
Went to pull it all apart the other day,and noticed eggs on one mat. Picked a few out and stuck them in a petri dish. Looked like she had just dropped them. Left them by the microscope.Forgot about them. Friday, I took a look, and they were developing nicely!
Today, I have fry!

Next year, I'm going to try to set up on a large scale, keep the males and females separate, slowly bring up the temps, THEN pair them up in bigger tanks. I'm hoping to get a BIG batch off,all at the same time,so I can rear them all in one or two batches.

Very interesting JHM. Did you take any photos? I'd like to see some photos of the building with the raceway/troughs that you described.

LOL, I just unboxed the digital camera I got MONTHS ago.
Took a few pics of the fry. Will TRY to post them when I get home this evening.

Just reinforces my belief that trying and caring too much often leads to failure. It's my indifference, carelessness, and plain, ol' ignorance that gets things to happen!

EDIT: set up account here, and trying: HEY, pic worked!

The eggs had THE yellow/goldenest yolk I've EVER seen: looked like Wesson oil. I may have to give them a little brine shrimp in a few days and see just how long I can keep them going.

That is a very deep quote! Why do you think that is so true for almost everything?
