I have not posted for awhile. However, I need help. My 1 acre pond in central Ohio has milfoil bad. Last year I took a sample to the hatchery and they said it was milfoil. They said to use navigate. I however did not use enough to kill it all. It came back late last year, worse. I think that I want to use it full strength over the entire pond. My question is, should I do that and when? The water temp is only about 40. Thanks.

Tom, make sure it really is milfoil and not something else. I would wait until the water temps are in the 60's before treating it. Ideally treat it in the morning on a sunny day and when the forcast calls for sunny days for the next few days. Here is a guide to submerged plant identification, look at the coontail picture as well. Can you post a picture of it? I know that Navigate works extremely well on milfoil with lower doses but does not work near as well on coontail.

Thanks Shorty. I am about 99% sure that its milfoil. I had the hatchery people look at it. I think that I will try navagate when the water gets a little warmer. I will see if I can get a picture. Thanks, Tom

Hey, Tom. How're things down on the sunny side of Kirkersville?

Tom, we used Navigate for a number of years on our pond to treat eurasian milfoil. It worked quite well on the milfoil in lower doses. One thing that happened was that over time the coontail became the the dominant weed in the pond, the Navigate did not work well on coontail in low doses. Right now we are using Reward/Cutrine Plus/Surfactant that works extremely well on both types of weeds.
