Here we go, spring is just around the corner and I'm comtemplating some pond plants. I still need to establish some plants in my new forage pond dug the fall before last. I had hoped to plant something that encourages forage growth (scuds) plus attract waterfowl. So last year I planted sago in the new poind but the drought seems to have killed it all. So I may plant more sago this year and I also just recieved a pound of giant burr reed seed. Someone offered to send me some last year, maybe it was GW? I ended up ordering some seeds, just got them. Now I guess I have to soak them in the refrigerator for a couple of months and then plant in spring. Anyone ever do this? I gotta get some plants going so I can stock scuds.

Hi bz. It wasn't me that mentioned giant burr reed. Now that my little pond has been constructed I need to start looking into plants. I wish I had more time!

bz - Not sure if you are aware of this book Prairie Moon Nursery available for your area. I found it to be an excellent source for native plant research and all around pondscaping. I used it as a guide to cross reference to native Michigan plants.

Gettin closer to planting time. Got all your plant GW? The only water plants I'm planting this year is the burr read. I have the seed soaking in the refrigerator right now. Supposed to soak it for 2 months, drain, rinse, and plant. I plan to plant in early to mid May depending on weather. ChuckC - I have heard of that book and I've seen it somewhere but I don't have a copy. I may check into that. I'm also looking for some fast growing shore plants that I can plant on some of my area that is fresh spoils from my pond expansion project last year. I need something that grows fast and tall so the area can look natural as quickly as possible. It's a black eye sore right now. Any ideas?

I don't have anything planted in my new pond yet. I hope to go out and scrounge some up from around here soon.
