Someone with nobler intentions and a vastly greater knowledge of fish started the practice of making special milestone posts at the forum. One of my best friends here PM'd me last week and asked if I was planning anything special for my 4000th post (thanks, little brother; you got me thinking). My response was that it would probably be like 3,952 of my prior posts and not be too important. The overall content of my posts has had about as much pertinence as the Y2K hype a few years ago did. But the issue isn't Y2K, it's Y4K. Why have I made 4000 posts here, many full of nothing but , , :p , , and , instead of a fraction that many with actually useful content? Like perhaps many forum members (and most of the forum's readers, if one looks at the member vs. lurker numbers), I read this vast and great body of knowledge from the outside for months before participating. I didn't need to ask any questions yet – better than 95% of everything I could think to ask had already been answered. I didn't need to answer any questions – minds considerably more full of knowledge than mine had far better answers than I did. Finally a question was asked, one I had a fair amount of experience with, and left unanswered long enough for me to register and respond. IIRC, it concerned sediment in runoff from field drainage tile and the affects of varying amounts of livestock manure on ponds. Voila! I knew something about that and I answered. My posts have tended to contain large amounts of organic sediment ever since. But still, given that slow limited start, why 4000 posts? Why not a smaller number based on the questions and answers I actually have? To answer that, I refer to the lyrics from John Mellencamp's song Small Town: "No I cannot forget where it is that I come from I cannot forget the people who love me Yeah, I can be myself here in this small town And people let me be just what I want to be" In case you haven't noticed, folks – this forum is a small town. I'm glad I found it and moved in. For nearly three years now, you have had the grace to not only "let me be just what I want to be", but to even encourage it. You have also shown the exemplary traits that help define what it is I want to be: the energy and ability to make (seemingly) all things happen of a Bob Lusk, the generosity of an ewest, the twangy smile of a Dave Davidson(1), the enthusiasm of a george, the savior faire of a Sunil, the determination of a Meadowlark, the common decency (so all too frequently uncommon in real life) of a Greg Grimes, the innate friendliness of an Ed Eitel, the impishness of a Fatty McButterpants, the six foot long arms of a Bruce Condello ... the list goes on and on. For all those here, especially those of you who came before me: Thank you. For those reading and not posting yet: Come on in, the water's fine.

what impresses me about theo is his ability to speak for me and probably alot of others out there. i ramble, go off topic, aint too smart about alot of things, and you guys put up with it.......so when reflecting that i was at 1,000 posts, it just told me i need to sit back a while and quit getting in the middle of everything.....which was good timing cause a new work project came in for me and i havent even had time to check the forum..... thanks theo, i agree, its great to have a place where like-minded folks (for the most part ) can be themselves, congregate, think out loud, argue, laugh, even mourn, and most importantly......share the love of ponds.

Coming from someone such as myself, who's every single post is packed full of hard-nosed, scientific information and relevant, data-based observations, I can only request that you, Theo, try to keep it real and give substantive, tangible input to this forum.
Shame on all of you who choose to make posts with levity and sub-par humor. And more so, shame on all of you thread high-jackers.
Furthermore, photo-shop submissions and collage work are a privilege, not a right.

A few weeks ago I posted "Theo -- the brother you always wanted. The real reason he does what he does is he cares about you !! " Now with this glimpse into the person by post 4000 you have seen that my statement was accurate. I disagree with one of Theo's statements , "My response was that it would probably be like 3,952 of my prior posts and not be too important. The overall content of my posts has had about as much pertinence as the Y2K hype a few years ago did." I have said this before -- Theo has started many of the best threads here (including my favorite). Go look at the threads Theo started and you will see what I mean. Here is an example. Long-Haired Hybridization http://www.pondboss.com/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=20;t=002154 Here is what Randy E. said about 1 of Theo's posts." Theo, what a great post! Tack that baby on the front door of the Pond Boss Hall of Fame. " http://www.pondboss.com/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=20;t=002233;p=4 Sunil ... thanks for the smiles. DIED don't stop taking part even for 1 day. This is a family not a monolog. We need everyone's participation including the levity. On your 1000th my thought was how novel the approach but my wife said the women were skinny , funny I didn't notice that.

Not so, Theo. I remember them all, just like everything about Y2K. When was the Y2K thing anyway? About 3 or 4 years ago, right?

This is easily encapsulated: only Theo would have thought a 4,000th post would be Y4K. I had to open this topic just to see what the heck he meant.

My sentiments exactly, Dr. Dave. Theo, your supposed "not...too important posts" are one of the main reasons I stopped being a lurker. Keep on truckin'

Keep going Theo, your mixture of humor, help and homilies probably makes you the most read author, y4k aside.

Reminds me.. I worked with a lady and she and her husband were survivalists, Y2K, was manna from heaven for these guys. They were buying freeze dried this and vacuum packed that, they got rid of everything that everybody said would be affected, including their newer car, they had analog everything, anyway, one day I was walking by her desk and saw a receipt for a generator. big guy, 6kw, ton of money, money that they could not afford, bought on credit. So the following week I put out a memo warning that a certain brand of generator used a chip that was not Y2K compliant. I let it go for longer than I should have and the lady hasn't spoken to me since, even though they took the generator back and cancelled the bill.

Rad you saved her a bundle and she is still mad at you ? Maybe you should put out another memo that says the previous memo was in error in saying the generator chip was not Y2K compliant but that the time value of money is now 2X , with interest it is 3X and you can now purchase the thing for 1/2 X . Think she would get the idea?

Thanks Buddy; for all you are and have been.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

So thats another 2,000 posts over roughly (9) months.
Someone do some calculus here and lets determine the rate of change!
May '04 to April '07 gets us 4,000 gems.
April '07 to Jan. '08 gets us 2,000 more golden nuggets.
We may see 10,000 posts from Ole' Theopolis before the end of this year.
