Looks like another green sunfish
X bluegill hybrid to me.
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Eric, I found this on another forum so I know nothing about the pond or location. "......once identified it (please ....., correct me if I'm wrong)as a cross between a red ear sunfish and a green sunfish??? It pulled like the dickens and was built like a brick. And to stay in sync with this thread, I caught it on my 8'6" tfo pro 3wt. PS. This fish drew blood on my thumb when removing the fly!!" It ewas the bloody thumb that caused me to ask the question...

...It ewas the bloody thumb that caused me to ask the question... Ahh, I get it now. My first impression was that fish was just a great pure green sunfish specimen. But I can see in the patterning that there may be some other genetic influences.

It does look like it has some GSF in him (her?). Bright yellow fin tips and some green around the mouth. Looks too round shaped to be pure GSF to me (based upon the GSF that DIED and I have anyway).
Looks fairly healthy what ever it is.

Eric, the flyrod handle on a TFO 3 wt fly rod is 7 inches long - by my extrapolation ... the fish is ~11.5 inches

With that in mind I think that is a HBG and a very nice one. They are very aggressive and strong.

Thanks much for the info.
The fish picture was posted on a Northern California forum, but the thread was about Temple Fork Outfitter’s fly rods
The picture was primarily of the TFO Pro model 3-wt fly rod, and the fish incidental, but proudly displayed with his cited ID documentation.
I’ll not publicly question their ID, but PB answers very helpful to me as well as others.
