I am going under the saws, knives and needles on January 4th to fix my right foot. I like to walk 4 miles, 3 or 4 times each week and haven’t been able to do that for over a year. I also have on-going pain in the right side of the foot that I will be happy to get rid of. What they are going to do is saw through two bones and pin them in the correct position. They are also repairing a main tendon that has been trying to hold all that crooked stuff in place and finally gave out. I wanted to warn you that while I will be quiet on the Forum for a couple days it could get brutal after that. I have to endure 6 weeks on crutches and 6 more weeks of limited activity. I will be near one of my computers most all the time ready to pounce on any unsuspecting thread at any time. Yikes!

That really shows compassion, Dwight, to let us have advanced warning.
Thanks Bro! I'll be thinking of you.

Good luck Dwight on the foot retro-fit. Just think how much fun you could have during the recoup period fixing all the bad links here. That is a scary though - I can see a a RES thread linked to a dam construction thread to an aeration thread all linked to the Bremer Barge thread. - -

Dwight, Hope all goes well. We know you Minnesota guys are tough. I know you will come through in flying colors. Heck! I might come up and run the first mile with you. Well at least I can drive along side you while you run.
In Dog Beers, I've had one.

Sunil - I have been accused of many things and rightly so. Compassion? ewest – I could fix all those links with administrative access to the Forum directory tree on the server. I would do it for free if you agreed to help me with those pesky off shore Cayman accounts….. heybud - That would be walking, not running. I switched from running to walking when I hit 50. I just hope to keep walking the miles until I reach middle age which my 86 year old mother says is 90!

Then here's to middle age for all of us.

I guess we don't appreciate our feet until they give out. I guess they can sideline you just as bad, no, worse than any other surgery. Good luck Dwight!

Today was the day. I am back online in a limited state. Surgery went well with no complications. Pain is limited by three different narcotics and so far not an issue. The issue is no weight on the right foot whatsoever which limits a person largely. Surgery was at 10 AM, I was in the recovery room by 12:30PM, and home at 5:00PM. They definitely get you out of there quickly! I would rather be home than in the hospital, so it suits me just fine. My nurse takes really good care of me, but no Corona tonight!

Glad you made it back Dwight.
I'm sure you know it, but don't mess with the healing of your foot. You need it to be 100% when you let freedom ring on the Bremer Barge, launch date TBD.

Welcome Back, Dwight! Who needs Corona? I'm more interested in what kind of posts you make on three different narcotics.

Glad you're home and recovering, Dwight. Looking back, we may think of this as his "Dwight Has A Pond" period.

Glad all went well. Be sure to get a seat by the window so you can keep an eye on things while you recuperate.

Just call him Collins Grandpa. He'll answer to that a lot quicker.
Glad to see you back. Three kinds of narcotics. Why does that make me thing of Cheech and Chong? After 3 days of the lala land pills, I dumped them and accepted the discomfort. I dumped the discomfort and switched to De Kuypers Apricot Brandy. Whole different set of visions.
You might try to keep the Grandkids out from underfeet.

A couple of rough days: After the anesthesia wore off the pain became very bad, even with three different pain meds. I finally got some quality sleep from 6AM to 11AM. (Reminds me of college when I studied so hard at night that I slept in and missed my morning classes) After all the medications and not eating much, barfing commenced. That wore me out and I had another 1 hour nap. After a couple more 2 + hour naps Gail made some soup for me. That stayed down and things seem to be improving some. I am hanging in there……

Glad you're home and recovering, Dwight. Looking back, we may think of this as his "Dwight Has A Pond" period. I'm not sure whether to feel insulted or praised. Either way glad to hear things are going well Dwight. Just make sure you take things slow and easy. P.S. the men in white suits are not your friend and the jackets that tie in the back are not that comfortable.

Another use for Hog Rings I had my Doctor appointment this morning. They removed all the dressing and such left from surgery and did a couple X-rays. I saw my foot for the first time since before surgery. There are 3 separate incisions. The longest is around six inches long and the other two are around 2 inches each. The bones that were sawed through and repositioned are held in position by two - 3 inch long heavy duty tapered titanium screws and one - 1 inch long more normal looking screw. There are a total 28 staples holding the whole works together. The staples look like small hog rings to me. So everything looks as expected and the recovery process continues. Six weeks on crutches six weeks walking in the black boot. I’ll try to get some photos my Frankenstein foot this weekend.
