I found a dead 16" LMB in the pond. Really, I just found 2/3 of him. Most of the tail was gone. The most interesting thing was that his last supper was still in his mouth. You could see a half swallowed 4" bream. So if he was healthy enough to catch the bream something must of got him before he finished dinner. Otter? Any other ideas?

It looks like a fresh wound? Also you are aware of otters in your pond?
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Yes, I have seen otters in the pond they do not seem to visit regularly in the last 5 years. I have not seen one or any signs since Spring. There are other ponds nearby.
The fish was old his eyes cloudy, had lost his normal color & just beginning to smell. I would have thought it was natural causes & the turtles had chewed on him, but for the bream in his mouth.
Long ago, 10 years or more perhaps, we had an otter & a couple of pups. She some how cornered a grass carp(30") near shore & frightened him enough that he beached himself trying to get away. She was feasting on him when I missed. I was very unhappy about the loss of one of my grass carp.
