Like Dwight, I'm also submitting to knives and needles but no saws. This Friday, 12/28, I'm having a hernia repaired in my gut. About 5 years ago, I had colon surgery to remove a big, non malignant, polyp. Evidently, I didn't adhere to the Doctors orders to not overdo it.
So, I get it fixed. No big deal and they are doing it as Outpatient but may keep me overnight. They will open me up and sew a piece of kevlar in there that looks kinda like window screen. The Doc says I can't pick up over 15 pounds for 3 months. This time, I'm going to pay attention and follow the Docs orders.
I timed it for the end of deer season and before fishing gets good.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you Dave. Mind what the doctors tell you now.
In Dog Beers, I've had one.

Good luck Dave. Keep us posted on your progress. In and out is the best type of hospital stay - so follow their instructions.

...whatever happened to good old duct tape? - Is the nursing staff sufficiently forewarned? - Prayers to you and Dwight; you guys can text message each other.

Dave, good luck with the hernia repair - I had laproscopic (sp) hernia repair and all I had was a belly ache, but my son recovered qicker than I, with method you describe. Let me know if I can be of help. If you get cabin fever holler and we'll tie some flies - or tell some lies.,,

My dad has one of these procedures coming up too, but he's only a grandfather!
We'll be thinking of you.

Good vibrations are emanating from Bremer Pond for a good surgery result for you, Dave. Call your friends when you need to move all those tackle boxes! I timed it for the end of deer season and before fishing gets good. I used that logic to schedule my foot work as well. Great minds thinking smartly!!

Dwight and Dave, good luck with your repair project. I am confient both of you will be fully recovered soon.
Dave, I understand your waiting until cold weather to have a surgery where you can't lift more than 15 pounds. I always fish with the idea I may catch a 16 pound bass, and I assume you have the same goal.
Enjoy the rest.

Dave and Dwight -- you both sound like you have good plans. I think we should just count on you being right (knowing what you are doing). We'll be thinking of you!

Yeah Bing, I thought about that. Guess I'd better spool on some 8 lb. line.

I helped the Vet sew up a horse with a torn nose once. What he used was basically fish hooks (cut off the barb) and 10-12 lbs mono. He did have them snelled up and sterilized ahead of time.
Anyway, Dave and Dwight (or any PM undergoing the knife) could save some money by closing themselves up, or at least providing the gear for the surgeons to use. Just a tip.

I'll tell you what's scary. I once looked at a scalpel under a microscope. They aren't as sharp as you think. A pro knife sharpening guy got me to take a look. He sharpened scalpels for a couple of Surgeons and made a difference in the size of the scar.

Got sliced and diced at 8:00 in the morn, stayed overnight and went home the next day. Going real slow, taking pain meds as needed and trying to keep from coughing. A sneeze terrifies me. Lots of things I'm not supposed to do and I don't want to do them anyway. Under no circumstances do I want to make my child bride mad. Being dependent is not something I enjoy or want to get used to. Ought to be OK in a couple of days for really limited stuff. Seeing the Dr. tomorrow (1/1/08). This SUX.

Yeah Grandpa, I've been thinking about tomorrow being "show time" for you.
I am very slowly regaining my strength. Yesterday, no nap. Of course, since I had problems sleeping in this morning, I expect I won't make it all day today.
Yesterday, I got busted. About noon, I got cabin fever, went to my pickup and took a short drive around the area. I bet I wasn't gone over 5 minutes. One of my Daughters picked that time to drop by and check on me (lousy timing). She rang the door bell and got no answer. She didn't notice that the pickup was gone and didn't have her key with her. So she called my office number, the house number and finally my cell phone. Well heck, the cell phone was in my pants pockets and I couldn't get to it in time. I tried calling her back and got no answer. She was on the phone to my wife. The wife did get me on the cell phone as I was pulling up to the house. She attempted a butt chewing but didn't get very far with it. I've agreed to notify the proper authorities next time I decide to go against the Doctors orders. And, I do reserve that right.

Glad to hear your mischievousness is returning! That is a very good sign of progress. Doctor’s orders are more like recommendations, aren’t they? Just be careful out there.
I’m not supposed to drive for 6 weeks, Fat Chance! I already have my Mule in the house garage waiting to transport me to my office using a left foot driving technique. The remotes for the garage door openers at each end of the trip are temporarily mounted to the roll cage. I convinced my Nurse (Gail) that this would be much safer than crutching back and forth on ice and snow.
