Depends on your goals. The bigger the better. A certain amount of water can sustain only a certain amount of life. A small pond can only sustain a certain poundage of fish. So you can have a lot of small fish, or a few big fish, but not both. If you stock it with forage fish, and then LMB, the bass will grow, but you have to keep analyzing and correcting. Look at the amount of forage fish. If they begin declining, take out some LMB. Look at how many fish are in a certain size class, and take out that size when too many of those are in existence.

But a small pond is better than no pond.

Hi Steven, my pond is only 1/3 of an acre. I have catfish to 2 pounds stocked last year and a good bream population stoced the year before. I run a airline in the summer and feed water from my well year round to keep the level topped off. I also have a ton of minnows both fatheads and mosquito fish. Am going to stock about 25 bass on the 22nd of April to help keep the forage fish in check along with 100 more catfish to replace the ones we plan on harvesting this summer. You can see picture at my website of the construction and filling of my pond.

A 1/4 ac (100'x120') will in fertile soils naturally support about 8 to 10 bass ranging from one to two pounds. Fertilize the pond and feed pellets the bass will about double.
