I meant to post this yesterday and forgot.

150,000 Fish Die in Fire.

People around me think it's pretty weird; it seems perfectly understandable to me. But then, I keep fish indoors and have had a watering trough burn to the ground.

Stuff happens. The only thing I ever had burn to the ground were oil based paint rags (epoxy, xylene, toluene, denatured alcohol) that were intentionally lit. TG, your pressing your luck ;-) I have always wanted to get a few Sturgeon to raise in an ras, but that would be an expensive hobby. I can see why they saved them first (and probably did) especially the big ones, even if they only have a few. Fish farm in WI or MN raises Sturgeon, I wonder if the people in OH got the fish from them? EXTRA CARE with Sturgeon. Make sure the transfer switch is working before you put the kids to bed.

This happened to Purdue's fish lab a couple of years ago. Didn't seem to matter how much water there was. Lots of electrical consumpmtion in some of these buildings. Lots of things that can go wrong. Not my cup of tea. Last one I was in sounded like a factory with all the compressors. Couldn't hardly hear myself. Yuck!

I know what happened at Purdue. I went to Kankakee, IL to pick up some Nachi Robots from Daimler-Chrysler and after I got back and told you, you accused me of setting it off. \:D \:D \:D (made about 7800.00 that day) good day for doing nothing but driving and letting my Lab dodo on their lawn. ;\) Need more days like that:-) \:\)

I bought my HSB, FH, and LMB from FWF. If I remember correctly when I picked up my HSB they were using the wood burner to heat an area for koi. I solicited tilapia to them at that point, seeing if they had interest in keeping some in that room through the winter. They didn't, must be more money in koi. I got to pet the stugeon, very friendly fish and not slimey at all. They have/had a really neat trout operation with raceways built out of cinder blocks lined with plastic. They were pumping a ton of water, the water was ice-cold. I've purchased fresh trout fillets there that were the best tasting I found, equal to those I've caught from clear mountain streams in Tennessee and far superior from the put and take fish stocked in lakes nearby. I tried some of the freshwater shrimp they were raising at the festival mentioned above in 2006. They weren't nearly as good as their saltwater cousins IMHO. They seem like pretty nice people, it's unfortunate they have to go through such a tragic event.

My "unofficial" state record perch came from FFO. However Dr. Smith told me he may have been the middle man and the fish orginated somewhere else.

He contacted me when I was looking for female only perch. Got me started with raising perch.
