I excavated a pond on my place about 3 years ago. It is approx 1.5 acres and 40' deep in the deepest part. It is a horseshoe shape so it goes to about 15-20' deep on both sides. When i was digging it i left all kinds of ledges and drop offs. I am wanting to aerate my pond too get rid of the stinky water and to help clear it up.

I stocked it about 1 year ago with all kinds of diffreent fish and they are doing great. i have a home made feeder feeding them twice a day.

Ok back to the air questions. I have been looking around on the net and this forum and have come to figure out i need a high pressure rotary vane compressor to push the air to the 40' mark. I am capable of building a kit but would rather buy a kit.(unless the price is too high) I was wanting to have 3 diffuser stones 1 at 40' and the other 2 at aobut 20' deep.

So my question what is a good kit that wont break the bank??

Also is it possible to have the compressor in my well shed that is aobut 400' from the pond? and run pvc to the pond and then branch off to the diffusers? If so what size pipe should i run?

Thanks for all your help and look forward to reading more on this forum.

Greetings and felicitiations, guyintx.

You should be able to get some excellent info wrt an aeration system here.

400' is not at all a long run for an airline from a compressor to the pond. Until you get better direction, think about running a 1" line. You will probably want separate valves for the 3 diffusers at the pond, so you can adjust (balance) their output from right there where you can observe their boils.

i was thinking about running a 2" line b/c i have lots of that laying around.

That is a good idea with 3 seperate vales and guages to make them all the same pressures.

thanks

Guyintx, you don't want the same pressure in each line, you want the same flow. The same pressure in each line will give you very little flow to the deepest aerator because you are pushing the air deeper down. If the aerators were exactly the same depth, exactly the same back pressure in the line, and exaclty the same back pressure in each aerator then equal pressure would give equal flow. I would at a minimum just put a pressure gage at the pump so that you can see what load you are putting on it and make sure it does not exceed the manufacturer's rating. Then all you can do is adjust the volume until all 3 diffusers look alike. That's why Theo said you should put the manifold with valves next to the pond where you can see.

Gotta get back to fishin!

o ok now i see. I told u i was a newbie to these things. i never thought about the deeper one needing more pressure since it is deeper.

Sue Cruz
your test worked.

thanks
