After years of putting up with the RR blocking us in and out of our property, home and business, I finally lost it two weeks ago and spent days making calls and bending ears. We had our first and last face to face meeting with the RR Wednesday and I walk away with my tail tucked between my legs \:\( . The bottom line is, the RR turned our 550k land, house, pond, and shop into a worthless chunk of dirt. Unless you own a helicopter.

Tell us more about the story Jim.

Was the RR there when you purchased your property or is it a new development?

Was traffic suddenly increased on the RR line?

Do they "park" trains on the section of track adjacent to your property?

What happened?

Jim I dont know your situation but a couple of suggestions:

Maybe your State Representative can help?

They are big companies too, maybe you were blocked by someone low in the organization. Write a letter to the top executive asking for help.

Would like to hear more details about your situation. Hang in there.

Jim, what happened?

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Yeah Jim, if you can bear to talk about it, I'd like to hear the back story.

Jim,please tell us more about it.I got in a battle with the city once and they tried to get the railroad on my case and it backfired on them, the railroad sided with me.Said they liked sticking up for the underdog.I might be able to find my notes.

The problem started when the RR was allowed to run 110 cars, that’s about 1 ¼ mile long, before that when the trains stopped they cleared our drive by a couple 100’ and the kicker is starting this fall the RR will start running two mile long trains.

The RR, D.O.T, Police, EMS, Fire, Media, Mulvane city manager, Sedgwick Co Commissioners all said your…..SOL along with several hundred other people in your area.
When you have a problem with the RR, your not only dealing with them, but add Home Land Security, “ghost riders” US Department of Commerce to your list.

If your wondering why they just cant break the train. When they did away with the caboose the switch man now rides in the locomotive, most of the time it’s the last few cars that do the blocking so that means he would have to walk a total of 4 miles to do his business and re-charge the break lines….that’s just not going to happen….and that’s a quote from the RR.

Fighting the railroad is very tough. In my experience they feel they have all the rights because they were there first. I think I'd just build a bridge over the tracks, if they'll let you.
