my 1.5 acre pond was completed in the spring of 2006.although it never completely went dry,it never got full of water.in the winter of 2007,however it got full, was limed in may and stocked with 1500 coppernose bream in June.I have an automatic feeder coming on everday a 6:00 pm.after about two days of feeding I discovered I had a pile of fingerling catfish inwhich my bream are competing for food with.
I have purchased a minnow trap to try and capture some of the catfish.Am I taking the right approach or is their something else?

wbrown welcome to the PB Forum. That aproach to reducing the cat fingerling #s will sure help. How do you think the cats got in there ? Do you know what kind of cats or a guess at how many (% vs the CNBG)?

yes,I believe the unwanted cats got in there from my neighbor's pond upstream.I purchased him a subsciption to your magazine in an attempt to educate him of proper pond mangement, but he continues to throw any and everything in his pond that is caught at other lakes and rivers. Thus, has no clue what is in his pond or the consequences down stream.
during the winter months the spring starts back flowing and as his pond fills,it flows over to me.Is there anything else I could do to completly wipe the cats out? will my problem worsen? the cat fingerlings have a black top, silver gray sides with some specks.% wise when the feeder comes on,it's hard to tell, but probally 3 times as many cats as are CNBG.

What do the tails look like? Forked tail or straight across like a bull head?
