Well, after almost two years of waiting on contractors, having contractors backing out, and weather delays, my new contractor should be here next week. I am enlarging a ~1/4 acre pond to somewhere between 1/2 and 3/4 of and acre (depending on budget). Now, for the question.

Should I lime the bottom and around the edges of the pond before it begins to fill in. The deepest parts of the pond will be around 8 feet deep. The water in the existing pond always stayed muddy. Tea color for the most part. Should I wait and see if by deepening it, the water will clear.

Thanks

Have you had your soil and/or water tested?

sure haven't...My property is an old rice field with hardly any trees on it. Very few pines.

Hummm, assuming that you need lime, better to get mixed in the dirt than try to deal with it after the pond fills in my opinion. However, its not clear what the source of your problem is...so liming may/may not help. Turbid water can come from many sources.
