In four hours four guys in two canoes boated 62 fish in the 9-13 inch slot, 19 fish above the slot but most between 14-15 with the largest being 17 and lost a fish that was over 6 lbs using artificial baits only. We caught only a handful of fish below the slot limit, by my count out of my boat we only had 4 under.

I hope I'm on the right path to producing quality bass. Three pound fish used to be and should be a common ouucrance in this impoundment. Any advice is welcome.

I think you are on the right track to having larger bass if that is your goal. It's funny to see you having to take these bass out because I have a friend that would have paid you about six dollars for each one of them. I would try to increase your forage base while you continue to remove the smaller bass. You could remove a lot of your weeds and increase the size of your bass with tilapia. You might also consider adding feeders. I have a pond that's about the same size as yours but its only in its third year. I stocked it with fish about the size as the ones you caught. I feed them with a feeder and now many of them are over three pounds. I also stock tilapia every year for additional forage.

I really like your dock. Did you build it yourself?

Looks like a successful day Kentucky. Fishing from a canoe/kayak is so much fun.

I'm with James, your dock looks great. Do you have any more photos of it (Post 'em if ya got 'em).

It started out as a pumphouse. The little shed closest to the road houses the pump that we use for irrigation. From there the little deck sprouted out the front as a covered fishing/feeding/drinking beer platform/john boat dock. Then we took it down the bank a ways because the little pumphouse platform was so popular and put some tables and chairs out there with a trellis. Problem with our john boat dock was that water running off the roof in a hard rain would fill the john boat to the brim if we weren't careful. So we got the backhoe out, reamed four pieces of 12 inch PVC into the gound, cleaned them out with a post hole digger, filled them with concrete, dug out the middle between the four 'piers' and built us a hip roofed boathouse anchored to those piers. A good friend of mine is one hell of a carpeneter, he and I built it.

Hehe. Thanks for the compliments guys. There are actually 7 PVC piers for the boathouse. I forgot the one in the middle of each of the three walls.

I hope you ladies don't take me the wrong way. It's not that you are female, it's that you can bait your own hook and clean your own fish.

I don't clean fish at all.

In fact, I used to never even touch ground meat.

On top of that, I really don't even like to hold live fish unless I can lip them, with the only exception being shiners or fatheads.

Maybe I'm on the wrong forum....is there a PondWussie.com???

\:D Me, too! But I let him think he does it better because I'm usually too tired from catching all those fish to do it myself. \:D
