If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

That's just one of Cecil's taxidermy mounts that he drags out on the ice so he has someone to keep him company when it's too cold for the norm.
Pond Boss subscriber ever since I joined the forum. Thanks Bob!

Cecil, I like your bobber set up, it looks like a little bit of ice buildup could sink it which is perfect set up for catching fish through the ice.

Ever use one of these sponge floats Shorty? Any ice build up can be removed by pinching the soft material, and you can adjust the floats sensitivity by breaking off pieces of the foam. I was using spring bobbers, but was losing too many fish when they slammed the spring down and felt resistance. With the float it gives them a little extra time to inhale the minnow.

Cecil, I never have used a sponge float before, but it looks like I am going to have to give it a try if our ice stays good here. Right now, the 50 degree days we are having along with alot of snow melt have made ice conditions very iffy now.

Actually that picture is deceiving. The snow was blown off of 70 percent of the pond, and that is a small 40 foot section that froze solid before I resumed blowing the next morning. The snow blower couldn't even cut into it! If you were to go to the right of the dog some 20 feet you would see snow free ice.

As you can see the snow area is not that large. Pictures can be deceptive.

Cecil - Is the fishing usually better in the shaded areas when the sun is out?

Photos for Cecil, Burger and all who love big dogs... Belle and Brutus are Great Pyrenese live stock guard dogs. Belle is only a 9 month old puppy and weighs near 100 lbs. She has been raised with goats all her life, and she or Brutus stay with the herd at all times. I sat and watched her one evenng leading the goats to their pens. When nearing the pen she circled and herded them through the gate. They love fish food - I tried and failed to get a photo yesterday of them in the water eating fish food that had washed to shore. I'd rather they clean up the excess fish food than the reacoons.... Belle Belle and Brutus

Me say dog good...cat bad.

On that day it was just as bad in both areas! On bright sunny days I might as well stay in the house. I can see then down there occasionally but they are really spooky. Water is so clear lately due to chara taking over the pond and virtually no algae bloom that I can see the bottom in my ice fishing hole! Best fishing is first light, last light, and after dark illuminating the water with a lantern.
