Well, it all started with a trip to see how much water 2" of rain on July 4th added to the pond. It was going to be a perfect Daddy-Daughter Day. Looks to have come up about 2 feet. After watering some of our planted trees, and after playing 9-holes of golf at the local muni, we decided to head over to a local lake to do some fishin' (fishin' for transportin'...that is). It was more about being together than anything, but my 6-year old caught 5 hand-sized BG one after the other. We also caught some 1" BG in a minnow trap. And the real surprise was this fella. He went 13" so we took him along back to the pond as well. And, who says you can't have fun swimming in a muddy old pond?! And the best news was more rain in the future...

Poland Jack that brings back memories. Thanks for sharing the pics. Nothing is better than a child's smile. I assume those BG went with the cat into the pond ok. Could use some FH or other minnows in there with them.

Ewest,
I carried the fish in an ice chest from the lake. It is only 20 minutes drive, or so. I was worried about the water temp in the pond, as it was much warmer than the lake water still in the cooler. My daughter told me though that there was a warm layer on top and a "cold" layer beneath in the pond, so I'm guessing they will be alright.
I put 1000 FH's and 50 CNBG in there 2 months ago. Truthfully, I don't know how many of them are still alive. I put them in early (when the pond was about 2 feet deep, then it got really hot and evaporated. I only get to the place once a week at best. Going to wait until it fills up before I stock it "for real". This fall I plan to put many more FHs, and Golden Shiners, couple hundred CNBG and 25 CCs and 25 Blue Cats. Then bass next spring.
For this summer, though, I'll transplant fish from fishing trips just for fun.

PJ-
That is what its all about! I bought our place to get my three daughters (10, 8 & 6) out of the city every once in a while, and in one year we've already made some great memories. It's good for the grown-up soul, and it's good for kids to have to figure out how to entertain themselves with no TV/iPod/Game Boy...
