As some of you know I have started building some ponds on my place. I see a lot of postings here about Electroshocking surveys. My question is can this be done with the old style hand crank telephones? I have one because I am a telephone man by trade. I have never tried to use it before but it does create juice when cranked. Would this device do the same as the equipment the pros use? If so what long-term effect would it have on the fish?

I've heard of people doing it. I don't think it is recommended or works as well as commercial units. I believe it is illegal on public waters. If you do it on your pond though, let us know how it works! Has anyone here tried the biosonix? I've read about it, but not talked with anyone who has used it.

I would think it might work on a limited basis but can't believe it produces even close to the electricity of the commericial units.
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Thanks for the input!! It will only be used in my private pond. It will be a while before I could test, as I am still digging on the pond

That hand crank phone with the handle removed and a cordless drill attached will light up your little brother while he is sleeping if you wrap the wires around his toes..Opps did I say that out loud?

Some work better than others for fishing so some of my relatives say that live in OK. They actually started using pace makers 1 wire to the boat and another out dragging behind the boat but I think they were after catfish, But those crazy heathen would also go noodleing in water over there heads and pull out some monsters. I was too chicken to try.

The telephone method works best in moving current with rock bottoms. most ponds the bottoms have too much mud in it to get a good charge. best in rivers{but like mentition in eariler post its not legal on public waters, i.e. confiscate boat, gear, truck, an mainly you. } This method also really only works on skined fish like catfish an such so not really good for a LMB/BG pond. It will sure get them big old cats to flopping to the surface {ya know from what ive heard that is }

kemp31...I've also "heard" about crankin' fish. All right, I give and I'll admit it, when we were kids, it was a blast using old "ma bell" to fish! Never, ever brought up anything with scales. Only cats and it worked better on flats vs CC, except it'd send the small CC skitterin' across the water for 50 feet around ya'. Must be different than electroshocking as we always had guys in the water with nets while we were crankin' and they never felt the currrent. Hadda be real specific as to how fast and how long ya cranked or you were just wastin' yer time. LOTS of fun just to see what was in the holes...
