Just a pond side photo from this morning, you would be able to see the pond if those tree limbs were not hanging so low to the ground.

...yep, Lincoln was national news as the epi-center of the 2006 1st day of Spring snowstorm. It just missed us to the south as it plowed thru central Illinois. SHORTY, If you crack open the window and carefully snap an underhanded cast, can you fish while still in your pajamas? :p

Shorty -- I just heard from the Valentine fish hatchery guys this morning. They've got 2 feet on the ground!! I was tickled pink, as those Sandhill lakes were starting to get low, and hopefully some of this will run off to the lakes!

It's a start Dave! This snow will be good for the soil moisture around here. We had roughly about an inch of moisture melt before it really started sticking to the ground and piling up. If the temps had been a little colder when this started we would be in a lot deeper snow right now. Bretski - I did stand on the dam Sunday morning and take a few cast with a 25-35 mph wind at my back. That lasted about a whole 5 minutes before I couldn't feel my hands any more.

I will try to get some pictures of my place tonight if I get home before dark. We had about 20" of snow and I have a beautiful drift hanging over my pond which hasn't frozen over yet. Neat scene, but I have a meeting after work so I may not get home in time to get a good picture. I will try to get the picture of my 16.5 inch smallie posted soon as well.

I would have preferred you got 16.5 inches of snow and a 20 inch smallie. Maybe next year.

Oh, only Sunil can grow 20 inch smallies, but watch out, I will have an 18 come out of there this year. My one sentence goal for the year would be 'to catch an 18 inch smallie, 20 inch HSB, 21 LMB and 10.75 inch BG all out of my small pond.' That would be an accomplishment for me. Or a better goal would be to seine 8 billion ponds of carp, bullhead and catfish out of my big pond. BTW, Bruce, you seem to be catching a little bit of the smallmouth fever. How long until you have a pond set up for the little green tackle busters? Carlson and Hale have had high quality feed trained smallies in the past. Sounds like a good next project.

So far all the snow has parted and missed us here. It's been a low snowfall Winter, so all the overtime-starved ODOT workers are out spreading salt on the roads. We DO have 2"-6" of that.

Cool picture, Steve. Worthy of a magazine cover.

NEDOC, while I would love to take credit for growing a 20" smallie, I cannot.
I stocked those fish as large adults.
All I can say is that I'm being a good steward to them by funding their future growth in size and brain trust.

Here you go NEDOC! To post a picture click on "IMAGE", bottom right, rather than "URL" on the top left when adding the URL.
