We are planning to build a pond that is approx 200 X 100 feet on a bottom of a draw. No running water except when it rains. We get a run off about 100 acres around the area. The wash is very well perserved and has seen flowing water from previous rains. I am looking for ideas on how to build a spillway from keeping the dam from washing out and a dam design to keep the water in the tank.

A picture or two would help, but I would think that your dam would not be too different from any other. You will need to create a core of good clay, pack it tight, and get some grass or other vegetation on it. 100 acres is a lot of watershed so when you get a terd-floater, you are going to get so much water through the pond you will probably lose any fish in it. I would also be concerned that you may end up with nothing but a silt trap. Again, some pictures would help.

Hey Moe, I'm trying to think but nuthin's happening!

Hey listen to Jersey. He's talking like he knows something about a dam.

Wish me luck.

I am in your situation and I am going to install a pond dam piping system like the one displayed at ponddampiping.com. I was just wondering if anyone has first hand experience at this. I am going to make my own rather tahn order froum these folks. I believe I am going to use 8" PVC through the dam and a 10" riser and fit it with a 14" mouth and strainer. I can buy the sheet PVC and make my own anti seep collar. and so on

Seahorses, do you mean a siphon or a standpipe? If you look at my thread "New member-new pond" you will see several pictures of a 12" siphon system.

Wish me luck.
