it looks like we might be in for a much dryer summer here in centeral texas, corsicana, my pond, is down about 1 good 12" from where it has been for the last 3, 4 years in june,i wonder if i should cut back on the feeding (purina game fish pellets, once a day, there is a lot of natural feeder fish, crawfish, minnows, in the pond, about 1 acre in size, 12 ft deepest, no aeration at this time. david903

Yep, its even dry in East Texas...I'm down about 2 feet from normal pond depths. Hasn't rained much for 2 months. Might be a good year to have the aerator.

Only time in Texas that you don't pray for rain is like the time I'm in right now. Waiting for a low, wet spot to dry up enough to dig. Sorry guys, I'm praying for dry. And after August/Sept, I'll join you in prayers for rain.

Only down about 6 inches here in North Alabama but got a good inch or so today so should have raised the pond a few inches. Overall we are about 8-9 inches behind on rainfall forthe year.

So has Mississippi! Seems like everything goes East and West of us. Even yesterday I only got about 1/2 inch but in Mississippi they had areas get 3-5 inches.

Well you are not alone. Up here in upstate NY I havent seen rain in over 1 + month as well. My seasonal creek that usually runs into the pond until mid july stopped end of may. Not good sign. It seems everything we normally see for water is going south and east of our place. Ahhh well, I am trying to look on the bright side and take the time to make some pond adjustments for shallow structure that I have been meaning to do.

Dave, I'm thankful you went before me in these parts, or I would have done the same thing. I may try to clear my water a little (hay, gypsum, lime, baraclear), but instead of fert., I'll go with forage. If the forage fish get slim, I'll feed a little...no DO crash if I can help it.

My pond is about a foot lower than last year at this time. Just put in aeration system last weekend which should help.

Even though I got over 5 inches the third week in May it has turned off. I planned for that a raised my water level about 5 inches in anticipation of the summer evaporation. I do still have water standing out in the fields from the last rain.

TEXAS715,

I've thought of doing that also....raise the water level late in spring to help offset the dry summer. I've got plenty of freeboard to go up 6 to 8 inches, might make my piers a bit on the wet side, but I'm going to try that next year as well...6 inches is a lot of water over a 3.5 acre pond.

Well looks like my dry period might be over, they have tropical storm Arlene coming right up the Miss/Ala state line and have us forcasted for 8+ inches of rain! Better make sure the spillway is clear.

Sure Rub it in Bob!!! ;\) We keep getting told there will be rain and thunderstoms but we seem to have a force field somewhere around our area. The rain just misses us to the south and east. I am up to 55 days no rain at all. Ahh well I am glad your getting some and would love to see some myself but alas I guess I will have to wait longer.

When I saw the forcast for the tropical storm I thought about you. I hope you get enough but not to much.

Meadowlark

I wouldn't raise it to much or it could cause problems for you docks. I luckly have about a 1' that I can play with.
