I see Greg in GA has water temps at 58, Meadowlark has 64 in SE TX, mine are 54 west of Dallas. Does anyone have a good resource for looking up water temps in their area lakes ? I would love to get Tilapia in asap, but want to make sure the water is around 65 degrees.

I have been anxiously anticipating buying some tilapia around the first of April. I'm also planning to get some fresh crawdads shipped from Louisiana and some bullfrog eggs from Southeast Texas. Now the weather report says possible light snow along the Red River Counties tonight. Snow was not in my game plan.

Dave, you're somewhat close to me, I think we're looking at April 15th for Tilapia...at the earliest. Mine are intended to feed the first bass YOY in my pond, There's a really good chance I'll have a crop worthy of harvest, but catching them will be another story. I'm also looking for a small quantity of Threadfin shad...have you tried to establish them ?

Eastland:
Question...my water temp is 32 degrees or less with approx 12" of ice with no sign off giving up the "ghost" for the melt, when can I add tilapia????? It must be nice with those temps already.... whether in the water or ambiently. Best of luck.

Eastland, I haven't tried threadfin. My bluegill have always been prolific enough to not worry about them. I'm going to put the tilapia in a one acre pond on a new place that I bought. I think I'm OK on forage there but will try to unnaturally boost bass size. I'm going to scatter crawdads and bullfrog eggs in 3 or 4 small watering holes that I have. Then will move them to other places as they reproduce.
Hew Rowly, last week it was in the eighties here. Early Spring can be pretty deceptive to us. We had a snowstorm this year which was one less than normal. I've only seen my creek iced over once in the last 20 years. However, I've seen it totally dry a lot of times. Last year was the wettest year on record. When it started raining, my one acre pond was 7 ft. low and a lot closer to 1/2 acre than one acre. That is why I'm narrow minded about fertilizing.

Fish, I attended a seminar 2 years ago and one of the presenters said he would sell the eggs. He said, he had gotten some eggs, put them in a small pond and they hatched. Now the whole county is overrun with frogs. He is in Southeast Texas but I don't have the info here at work (I'm screwing off like most everyone else here). I'll try tonight to find it and let you know. I posted it once and we might be able to find it with the Search function.

My water temp yesterday was 70 degrees. It goint o take a little dip since it is raining and the air temp has dropped. The tilapia and bass have started spawning.
I have plenty of frogs but haven't seen or heard one bullfrog.
