Just out of curiosity, I'd like to ask two questions to anyone on the Pond Boss forums.
1) Who lives at their pond(s) vs. living elswhere? For instance, my pond is about an hour away from where I live.
2) How many of you had fish aquariums (fresh or saltwater) while growing up? For instance, I never had aquariums while growing up, in fact I was never into fishing until I was about 20 years old. I did always play in streams (damning them up, catching crayfish, etc.) when I was a kid. Now I have this good sized pond to play with.
Again, just curious on those two topics.
Thanks.

1) I live close to 2 hours away from my pond. We try to go as often as possible on weekends. We have a camp site to park our camper and we also hunt on the property in the fall.
2) I had several aquariums as a kid and spent a lot of time fishing as well.

1) 25 minutes away 2) 1 gallon bowl with a State Fair goldfish named "Gordon Lightfin".
P.S. I fish 150 days/year. Never owned a boat, though.

About 75' out my back door. Fished most of my life.
Better to keep fish on the grill than in a bowl!

Ponds are 100 and 250 feet away from home and business. Fished Devils Lake Michigan as a youngster at Grandparents which was a 1 1/2 hr commute, always seemed to take days to get there when your young.Always had aquariums loaded with angel fish when growing up.Great post nice to remember the younger years,Ted

Thanks for posting your responses.
So if I count 12 of us so far, including myself, it seems that 7/12 of us live at our ponds, vs. 5/12 who don't. (That may be off depending on where you put George and CMartin; I put 'em in not "living" at their ponds)
As far as having aquariums as a child, it seems that 1/3 of us did vs. 2/3 who did not.
I should have asked about history of fishing. In general, it seems that we all have it although for me, I started later in life. This assumes that Bruce Condello and CMartin are into fishing.

75' from my back door. Looking to expand the size and make it about 50 feet from BD. One of the biggest selling points for me was the stocked pond. Grew up fishing in farm ponds but never had an aquarium or any pet fish.

One pond front yard with one in the back and two more going in, as a matter of fact, starting today in the back. No more room for any more ponds! I had a fish bowl temporarily as a kid, but no actual aquarium. Been fishing since a kid but don't frequent the public lakes much anymore. Wonder why?
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

My main pond is 5 feet from my bedroom window and 14 ft from my office-lab. When I did not live at my pond I always had problems with uninvited "guests" even relatives fishing the the unguarded pond. Now it is no longer a problem.
As far back as I can remember I fished with my dad and raised fish in aquariums, tubs and even cisterns. My dad introduced me to fishing, it bloomed into full time aquatic biology with an emphasis on diatom taxonomy and fish culture & management.

The pond is 5 miles from the house, but we will be building a new house by the pond next summer. That was the plan when the pond was put in.
I had an aquarium as a child and liked to breed livebearers. I have always fished and love to fish in Norhtern Minnesota in the boundary waters canoe area.
I don't fish local public waters anymore either.

We live about 20 min. away from our lake and visit it almost every day. Didn't have an aquarium but fished small ponds and the Platte River in Nebr. Actually, I like to watch the fish in our lake much more than actually fishing for them.

Pond stocked two years ago is ten minutes away from home. Plan is to build a camp beside the pond. A larger pond will result from excavation (selling dirt) now underway, but will probably be too deep at thirty or more feet to be a first rate fishery. With no power available for aeration I expect turnovers and fishkills. I'm toying with the idea of bullfrogs then an initial stocking of fatheads and threadfin, then bluegill and redear followed by Florida and native bass a few months later. All still undecided. I fish infrequently, most of my time spent cutting grass and spraying duckweed - not too bad but not a whole lot of fun either. No aquarium in childhood.

1. We live on the shore of our pond. 2. Goldfish, guppies, turtles in bowls and small aquarium as a boy.
Some of my earliest and best memories of childhood are of fishing with the family. Lou

I built a new house on my farm. One year later, my 12 acre lake! Three years old now and producing nice bass, perch, and catfish. Thanks to Pond Boss, I have lots of structure. I can count on bass hitting my spinnerbait when it comes past those beautiful stickups! I had lots of aquariums while growing up and have always fished!

Our pond is about 300 yards from the house. It is a rare day that I don't (at least) take a walk around it and observe (so much to see!)
I can't remember not having my Grandpa take me fishing as a boy - mostly farm ponds but sometimes large lakes. Since we've been married, my wife and I have intermittently kept small aquariums where one Darwinian Champion inevitably eats everything else (a blue lobster, a Green Sunfish/Bluegill hybrid, and some ugly minnow/sucker that I never did identify but which got almost too big to turn around in a 10 gallon tank).

Pond's 75 yds away...not close enough.
Aquariums for years as a kid, and I've fished my life away since I was 7.
In a lifetime, the average driver will honk 15,250 times. My wife figures I'm due to die any day now...
