my dam is lined w/ 40mil epdm & is 8-10' tall
i'd like to add a tree to block the view of some unsightly power lines
w/ the liner in place i should have no problems w/ seapage
are there other concerns i should have planting the tree
is there a good shallow-root tree that would be more appropriate for a dam
?

I'm not a dam expert but I know Dogwoods do not grow very large .. 30 yr old tree will only be 4" in dia. .. & all their roots are withing 3" - 4" of the ground surface.
Wait for some responses from some of the professionals though.

i,d live with the lines , your gunna need huge tree to hide power lines and it will not be big in your life time. \:\)

There's another option. There are some posts on bamboo which may be worthy of consideration. Some of the bamboo can grow , I think it was 50 to 60 ft tall pretty quick. If you can bush-hog to control maybe that's an option.
