my dam is lined w/ 40mil epdm & is 8-10' tall i'd like to add a tree to block the view of some unsightly power lines w/ the liner in place i should have no problems w/ seapage are there other concerns i should have planting the tree is there a good shallow-root tree that would be more appropriate for a dam ?

Shane, I'm not a dam expert but I know Dogwoods do not grow very large .. 30 yr old tree will only be 4" in dia. .. & all their roots are withing 3" - 4" of the ground surface. Wait for some responses from some of the professionals though.

Shane, There's another option. There are some posts on bamboo which may be worthy of consideration. Some of the bamboo can grow , I think it was 50 to 60 ft tall pretty quick. If you can bush-hog to control maybe that's an option. Here's a link to that discussion: http://www.pondboss.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=15;t=000017
