I know some people have had problems with stocking too many grass carp and thus depleating the weeds to unhealthy (below 10-20%) levels. Anyway, thought I'd throw in a tip from a friend. He swears that you can catch grass carp real easy by fishing with a crushed up cherry tomato near that bank. Seems promising but who knows.

Can you find out exactly what he does and explain it in detail? Why crush the tomatoes? Does he use a fish pole?. How many has he caught? Can he catch them if there are still palatable weeds in the pond? Or do the weeds have to be all gone before the g.carp look for tomatoes?. Does have any pictures of his tomato fish? Would your friend be willing to get an interview from M.McDonald for an article in PBoss mag?

I have another way that has worked for me that is cheap and easy I use artichokes. You can buy them at any grocery store for about .45$. You just shove a trebble hook thru the center and either use a heavy action fishing rod or tie it to the bank to a stake or strong limb of a tree either way this method works really well for me.It's more fun to use the fishing pole just have to have alittle time to sit and wait.I am going to try the tomato idea it sounds like it's a good one and alot of fun.

No, the plant life wasn't gone in the pond. He simply found out that he stocked way too many per acre than is normaly suggested. So, he removed them by fishing with a cherry tomato on a hook below a bobber, suspending it near a weed line. Crushing the tomato helps the smell carry in the water. I like the idea about using bank lines. Saves time. Incidently, I hear grass carp meat is real good with a sweet flavor.

C-hunter - Did he have any trouble with the carp sucking the tomato off the hook?.
Any trouble hooking them?
Single hook or small treble?
Never ate g.carp meat but also heard it is very mild flavor, but a little boney on the small ones.
