Ok, I fish /I swim/I shoot my guns...I just seen another (water moccasin) cotton mouth and I'm wondering if its the mate to the one I killed the other day. Sure looked the same, but I REALLY REALLY hate snakes. The sucker waited till the wife brought me the gun yesterday then he dissapered under the water and I never saw it again.(why does that always happen?)How in the world can I rid my pond of these suckers? Other than hunting them, I dont knowhat kind of a trap to make.I doubt I'd have the gumption to handle the trap if I had a snake in the darn thing....I HATE SNAKES BAD!!!

Monty, I have lived on a lake with plenty of cmm and I now have a pond with them. Two things work. One, cats! I had two siamese that would literally go into a hole and bring them out, play with them, then kill them. Cats are too quick for snakes. Second, sulphur. If you have an area you know they cross pour sulphur on the ground. If they crawl across it they will die. I've tried this and found a dead snake a couple days later. Of course, a shotgun is best if they'll show themselves.

I've always heard that cats keep snakes away, but they dont like water none!! I got the sucker yesterday while feeding my fish (I dont think it actually thought I'd be armed this time!! hehe) Shoot, you think it would be sane to pour sulfur all the way around your pond? Is it bad for anything else but your nose?

I wouldn't put it all the way around. Try to focus on a place where they might travel and see what happens. I think sulphur is harmless to anything else but you could check the bag for info. Cats won't get in the water but they'll get them when they come out.
