Hello all, this is my first post. Here's my question or scenerio. Got a bass/bluegil/trout pond about 2/3 of an acre, well its turned into a chocolate collored mess because of bullhead catfish I wish I would have rotenoned the pond before I started, but we are extracting a large amount per day so I think we can whip em. I have two aerators that move a lot of water, should I shut them of after I add the Gypsum. I know the catfish kicked up the dust initially but the circulation I would think is keeping it in suspension?

If the sediment is being stirred up by the BH and (likely, it seems) being kept suspended by aeration, it seems like Gypsum would be the wrong solution. I'd want to hammer the Bullheads and reduce the number of them stirring up the bottom.

Dr. Don,
Yes, at least for a week possibly two weeks will be needed after you get the BH out of the pond. The aeration system will keep it in suspension until then.
No reason to turn it off until the problem is solved though.

Thank you for the replies. To make matters worse, when I started up the aeration system I ran it 24/7 thinking I was doing the right thing. Its been running for a month or so. Before that I rigged up an old brass boat prop to a gearbox thats powered by a electric motor that hangs into the pond under a trap door in a deck over the pond it launches quite a current lol. The pond is about 30yrs old but has never been stocked with anything till I came into the picture two years ago lol. Well after reading some of the past post on this site I can see why I lost a lot of trout with the stiring up of the muck. The bass and bluegil I think are fine. I'm wondering at this point if I should just let the circulation continue
