I have an acre pond that has been mostly clear in the 1.5 years since it was built. However, it has been very cloudy with visibility at about 6" for the past 6 weeks. We do have some algae but not too bad. I had 2 geese that have made this pond their home over the past 6 weeks. Could the geese be the reason the pond is not settling? I notice them in the shallow end of the pond often.
Thanks
TZ

I wouldn't think just two Geese would muddy up a whole acre of pond. Before I encouraged them to leave I had a pair of Canadians at my pond this spring which seemed to stir up mud in a room-sized area at most.
Perhaps your Geese are much more active. Any other possible explanations for cloudiness this year like disturbed soil in the watershed, heavy rainfall, or an infestation of Bullheads?

Thanks Theo,
Last year we had two geese also and I don't remember having this problem. Also, last year I had no vegetation around the pond because it had just been dug.
We had some rain several weeks ago but the pond has historically cleared up after a rain event within a couple of days.
What are Bullheads?
Regards

They are a type of catfish. Their numbers grow rapidly and they tend to stir the bottom up.
