1. I am attempting to devise a plan for elimination of suspended clay in a 1/3 acre pond in Hill County, Texas. Water visibility is less than 6 inches. Pond banks are exposed and while grass grows on the dam, there is an uphill slope on the intake side with post oak and little grass. I am considering sodding and/or hay on the exposed slope. St Augustine and Bermuda sod is available. Has anyone used either of these as a silt control measure? Can I expect St Augustine sod to live? 2. Once I do something about the inflow, I am considering using a slurry of alum (aluminum sulphate) as a coagulant, applied with a pressure sprayer. Pond Ph is 7.6 with total akalinity of 110 and 200 ppm calcium. I believe I will need to use approximately 60 pounds of alum. Does anyone know of an easier or more effective way to apply the alum? Does it look like I need to add any hydrated lime to limit the ph reduction?

I found that Gypsum powder works the best to clear suspended clay particles. A one acre tank took 2000 lb. to clear it. Another tank we tried it on did not clear with 2000 lb. so I am going to wait till I get btter grass cover around the second one to try again. The second tank is deeper avg. ( 9 feet) than the first and gets more runoff. Also if ya can't get the grass cover then it may never clear. One good thing the catfish don't mind the suspended clay at all. Even caught a few bluegill out of the clay filled tank on artificials. Would not stock bass in the clay tank though.

Grass is starting to cover but the tank is still real dense with clay. It is a channel cat tank and they are doing real well so I don't think I will fight it anymore. We are catching some about 7-8 lbs. and all that is in there is fathead minnows and one pellet feeder. Like I said before we did clear one tank with a ton of gypsum, but this one was not phased by one ton. Glad we have more than one tank (pond... )

Those are some nice catfish. How long did it take you to grow them and how often do you feed?
