We have had out first clutch of mallard ducklings hatch in our pond. She has had about 8. Hard to count I can get to six then they pile up so guessing at least 8.

Wondering if anyone feeds them and how? What do you feed them?

Cheers Don.

Dono,
Whether there is something very special about optimal feed or not I cannot say, but I will say it transforms the actions of our wild mallard duck momma into a fish pellet vacuum cleaner. I suspect ducks probably like all kind of grain based foods but now anytime I come close to the pond the momma duck comes racing out from under the near by pine tree where she is sitting on eggs and comes over expecting to be fed.

The fish don't get much to eat anymore because she is frantically swimming and slurping as fast as she can. It seems to be such a powerful effect on her that her natural wild instincts are hastily thrown aside!

Some small fish food crumbles or pellets might just be the ticket.

...also, purina makes a duck food but on their web page it is on the same page as 'poultry' food and I can't find details of what is in it or the percentage of protein etc. I don't know if duck food and chicken food is the same or different..

Purina Flock Raiser is what I feed the Peking Ducks. Wild life I want to keep wild I just scatter supplemental feed from time to time along the shore line with chicken scratch feed. I make sure not to over do it so the will maintain their hunter gatherer abilities.
