We recently completed our 1 ac pond but its not holding water. Its dropping about a foot every week or so. I have looked at a material called water$ave Plug/Seepage from a company from Australia does anyone know of this company and if there are other options here in the states that might work just as well.
Also, has anyone had any experience with this product?
Thanks,

Have you gone thru this thread? http://forums.pondboss.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=462983&page=1Welcome to the forum. Lots of expert advice here, on all things "pond." I treated my pond with the material in the thread posted above. I wasn't losing a foot a week, more like 3-4". It slowed my leak to 1/4" a day.. Jeff
9 yr old pond, 1 ac, 15' deep. RES, YP, GS, FHM (no longer), HBG (going away), SMB, and HSB (only one seen in 5 yrs) Restocked HSB (2020) Have seen one of these. I think that's about all I should put in my little pond. Otter attack in 2023

How recently?
If very recently, you might give it a while to see if it slows.
Is there a point source of leakage or just general loss of water?

General loss - That was what I was thinking - to maybe let it run thru this summer and see how it goes.

One foot per week sounds like a leak to me and not just settling. In a relatively short time, at that rate, you should be able to see where the problem is.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

That is a lot Dave.
One other question Oldcoach, how does the pond fill with water? Is it a watershed, groundwater or well filled pond? Or some combination thereof. Groundwater pond levels vary because the water can go out the same way it came in, depending on groundwater water level during seasonal changes.
Oh, and also welcome to PBF!

its a combination of ground water and watershed - that was a thought I had as well.
I have a source of water to put in it but did not want to waste the time and effort to put water in it if it was only going to drain out as fast as we put it in.
Thanks,

I have a 1/4 acre pond that was completely renovated and somewhat enlarged in August 2015. After first filling, it leaked almost an inch per day. I applied a half unit of Soilfloc in the early spring of 2016, and the leak slowed somewhat. It's now down to 1/2 inch per day when near full pool. I think I will wait at least until next fall/winter before considering another application of Soilfloc. I think the dam and basin is still undergoing settlement, and we have had a six month drought, so not enough moisture to encourage more settlement. I have been pumping from a creek whenever there is enough flow.

If ground water, it is seeking equilibrium with it's surroundings.

Happy to help any way I can...we're operating at a 80% + success rate reducing leaks by at least 50% to complete seal. My time is always free to Pond Boss family. A wait an see approach is always a good call for a new pond as you could be experiencing vertical loss due to surround soil saturation, but it pays to be informed in case you need to explore options down the road.
