Pond Boss Forums AERATION Should I aerate? Spring feed pond with Bottom Drain, Need Diffuser?

I just spent the last 2 months expanding an existing 1 acre pond. The original pond was built with a team of mules by my great granddad. It leaked like a sieve and was pretty beat up, but was still holding all things considering. The pond is now 3 acres and filling fast. The people i had build it are very well know for building quality pond in this area. They build a 30ft tall dam with a drain pipe at 10ft off the bottom with a trickle tube on the back side of the pond. Emergency spillway is 3 feet above a second overflow pipe.

My question is. will i need to have a diffuser in the 30ft area? I have a 60 ft surface aerator, will that be enough?

most of the pond is about 10ft deep. It only gets really deep in the middle by the dam and drain pipe.

Any time you can keep the bottom water in the pond oxygenated, you will slow down the eutrophication process.

What was the thought process behind the 60 foot surface aerator? Did you have it already? Was it in the original 1 acre pond? What did you see while running it in terms of water quality etc?
