Need help identifying and controlling aquatic weeds in small (.20 acre) neighborhood pond in Durango Colorado. Images below:

Pond is in our neighborhood park and we would like to make the pond more attractive with less weeds and consider stocking with a few trout for kids. Would appreciate any help from the forum identifying the weeds as well as suggestions on how to control or get rid of these weeds (herbicides, raking, grass carp, etc...). Goal is aesthetics first and fishing second. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

The previous links may have included other pics from another pond. The following should be just the 2 pics from the Colorado Pond.

I hate to take a guess since those photos lack adequate detail. Basically, it's tough to ID a wad of plant-mass since leaf-structure and staging is difficult or impossible to discern.
The best photos (for ID-purposes) will show close-ups of a single plant laid out in a palm or contrasting background with a common object include for scale-reference.
Off hand, I'm guessing it's one of the Potomogeton spp - but not sure which one. Maybe sago pondweed (Potamogeton pectinatus).

Coolpond, I'd tend to agree with Kelly that you may have a Potomogeton sp there.
Our place is only 50 miles west of Durango; I see a bit of sago in the numerous ponds around here.
I work as an arborist out of Durango, so I get to see ponds up close. Where is yours?

Roger,

The pond is actually across the street from me. I live about 10 miles north of Durango in Dalton Ranch - The Cottonwoods. I am just off the teebox of #16 on the golf course. I am leaving Texas and heading back to Durango tomorrow and will take a few more pics as suggested by Kelly for a better ID.

Several of us in the Cottonwoods HOA would like to do a little clean up to the pond for aesthetics and possibly introduce some rainbows for the the kids to fish for. Not sure if pond is large enough for the rainbow (1/4 surface acre?).

My direct e-mail is mickey.grasty@gmail.com if you have any suggestions.

Thanks
Mickey

looks like sago pondweed to me....we have that problem weed in one of our ponds. Diquat with a little Cutrine Plus diluted with water should be the cure. Grass carp like sago as well.

Coolpond, we are in your subdivision pruning or removing trees several times each year. The larger ponds all seem to have several grass carp in them. I haven't identified any fish that look like trout, but they could be there.
Rainbow Springs hatchery (Patrick Goddard) is a good source for RBT and BRNT. I also got my GC from him. I can give you his contact number if you like.
If you see our truck and chipper-Doc Ricketts Tree Service-come on up and introduce yourself!
