Hello,
Can anyone tell me if removing weeds [especially Water Shield] via mechanical means will work. I can't afford the cost of the chemicals. What are the best ways to remove them mechanically? They have cutters and I heard dark tarps will also work. Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

Glen

Glen - for less than $100, you can probably take out about a half-acre worth of watershield with HABITAT herbicide. I can't imagine a cheaper way of doing it (the value of time and sweat considered).

BTW - mechanical harvesting really perturbs watershield, and that plant will get its retribution in the long run.

Kelly,
Thanks for the reply. Could you possibly give me some information on Habitat Herbicide? Where can I get it? How do you use it? Etc? Any information that will help me will help.
Thanks again.

Glen - I will email a product specimen label to you. Also, due to regional distribution boundries, I cannot directly service PA. However, I will email you with a suggested source for HABITAT.

Kellie! Will this work on Eurasion Watermilfoil and Southern Naid grass? I am in San Antonio and would appreciate info on where to get it if you think it might work. E-mail is mdonovan@satx.rr.com. I have Tilapia and grass carp working now and have physically removed a lot of it, but I am getting too old for that crud.

Hello to Jerry Carter, Burgermeister & Casca,
I am not Kelly Duffie. He recommended to me to use Habitat on my pond weed. I have Water Shield. It is a pain in the neck. Let me tell you about the results of spraying with Habitat. I first sprayed on July 2nd, then July 11th and again on July 22nd. I sprayed different areas each time. In about 10 days you start to see a change in the color of the floating leaves. About two weeks later the weed starts to die off slowly. Three weeks later you start to see areas of dead weeds. I think that within a week, the first area will be devoid of any Water Shield. The second spraying is now starting to show some dying off. Probably by the end of the summer, I will have this weed under control [I should have started sooner, but was very busy]. Next spring I should have a much better pond. Kelly recommended Dunn's Fish Farm as a source of Habitat. Bill from Dunn's was very helpful. The Habitat along with the Aqua King [needed with Habitat] costs a little over $100.00 which was a lot less than the other products. I don't know what type of weeds you have, but Bill@dunnsfishfarm.com can help you identify the weed [send him a picture]& recommend
a herbicide.
I hope this information will help you with your problem. Be patient, it helps. It helps me.
Regards,
Glen Dries

Thanks, Glen. We didnt mean to steal your post, but Kelly, when he can be summoned, is tops for herbicide control advice. Good to hear of the slow death of weeds. Hopefully that will prevent DO crash. Dunns may deliver some fish to my pond in Ms., I will ask abut the Habitat.

I have in the last 2 weeks used habitat on several of the problem plants in one of our ponds. You can find the label on the net for your info. I will post a better report later this week but to date Glen's report is in line with my experience. Seems to work well on cat tails and willows as well as some plants not listed. But be advised of the dangers noted on the label . ewest
