Just went down to the co-op and picked up some hydrated lime. They had a 4lb. bag of hydrated lime for 7$. Then they had what she called household chemically treated hydrated lime in 50 lb. bags for 12$. So I picked up the 50 lb. bag. Does anyone know if it matters which type of hydrated lime to use with my alum to treat the pond?

The hydrated lime should all be the same. Might be different levels of calcium hydroxide in it by concentration.
$12 per bag sound about right for what you need. Don't get it in your eyes or don't let anything you do not want dried right out touch it.
If you get it on your hands it will burn around your finger nail or any small cuts you have. Wash and dilute with water. As you wash with water it will dry your skin. Won't kill you but will really dry out your hands.
