First off I'd like to say hello! Secondly I have a few ok many questions but have been reading to find answers. I just bought another home with a 1/2 acre pond, max depth in center is 18ft, average I'd say is 10-12ft. Pond is stocked, not sure how much or with what. I do see plenty of minnows, skinny bass, small bluegill, and just dropped in two grass carps. Haven't seen any catfish or other species.
I'd like to get some aeration for a overall healthier pond, and so I can add more fish accordingly. I have a budget of roughly 500.00. I.have read about the vertex, and big max ebay specials. I'm also not spending 1200 on a kasco setup from local joint. Looking to get large boils and a fair system with two diffusers. Any pre-made kits in this range,
anyone got a link to his setup? im looking at the big max ebay special and for 350.00 thats seems very cheap for something that actual works. its insane to me these companies want 1200 for a very basic primitive setup. i have searched for his setup and yet to find it
The diffusers heads (vertex pictured below) are not that expensive when bought separately. You can make your own setup and find a rebuilt rotary vane pump perhaps to power it. Check CL for a pump?
canyon the easy part is buying the stuff. i would need a detailed list of everything and right now im so swamped with work i really dont have the time to scour the net for a pieced setup. Have read the vertex are cheap and good. Figured i can always change the diffusers
The good thing about the Vertex systems (I am a dealer for them BTW) is that if whoever you buy it thru is given the depth profile of the pond, and where electric is located or where you want the air to enter the pond, they can draw out a map of where the diffusers have to be placed for the most efficient operation.
If the pond can be seen from a satellite view, that helps, but I've worked with Vertex on new ponds where the outline and depth profile was sketched on the property using Google Earth and the system was figured out from that.
ryan RC here sorry just saw this post. My original air setup worked well for me but if your water is average 10 to 12 feet deep I would go with my setup but with my new and improved pump. I had a Eco 7 air pump which did well for me and some others but some did not do so good. I now have a GAST 0523 pump in a 1/3 hp. My GAST is a bit older and I believe the newer ones are the basically the same thing in a 1/4 hp. Either one would do well for you in 10 to 15 feet of water. Here is a pic of my upgraded pump. I got the gauge, and relief valve from Mr. Bill Cody on this site he can sure help you out if you ask him. He knows his stuff that's for sure!! My whole setup with new pump would have been about 450 to 550 bucks. You came to the right place to learn, read a bunch first and it will save you from some headaches later!!

The only difference between a rut and a Grave is the depth. So get up get out of that rut and get moving!! Time to work!!
Rc thanks for chiming in! I contacted big max, yes I know it's not the best, hell I'm not looking for the best. Pond is doing great as is, can only help. What I didn't like is the gast or Robertson twin piston pump is only cranking out 3-4 cfm. I will split difference and say 3.5. Gentleman at work thinks that's very low...idk
