I have a 1/2 acre pond that I have drained and killed off the bullheads and crappie. It is an older cattle pond with very little cover, no real plant growth, 5-6' deep when full. I have lots of cedars and hedge trees that I can put in the pond as habitat. Which type of tree will make better habitat? Or should I use some of both. I am sure that the hedge will last for many years. You can see some of the hedge that the previous owner put in the pond. I would guess that those hedge trees may have been in there for many many years. After the pond fills back up.... if it every rains here again... has not rained in months, I will be stocking BG and bass.... and FHM Thoughts and Thanks

Cedar is generally good for 5 years in my area.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Does in mater much how dense the branches are? Cedar has lots of small branches where the hedge will be more open

I like the small branches/twigs. Yep, dense cover for me.
However, the smaller stuff deteriorates in a year or so.
