has anyone seen any lmb spawning yet? im in the southeast and it has warmed up nice this year. we went from winter to summer and about skipped spring. i saw 15 bass right on the bank a week or so ago and now i hardly see any. it had warmed up nice that day, they may have been just stalking.

Do you happen to know the water temp in your area?

I haven't seen them spawning but my water temp was about 68 for the most recent full moon so I suspect they spawned

Bass bedded here in Atlanta area in shallower bodies of water 3 weeks back. Most have moved off the beds now. By shallow I'm speaking of 7 feet and less.

An old Bill Dance note for SE (don't know about up North).

LMB males make nests when the redbuds bloom and the spawn is on when the dogwoods bloom. I have found this to be close on timing.

my great uncle told me that before hunting seasons had actual dates, they used dogwoods blooming as a sign to start turkey hunting.

I was out in Southern California last week (Palm Springs) on a golf trip and LMB were spawning big time in all of the water hazards on every course. I know that because I unfortunately found the water on many off line shots. Back here in the Saint Louis area the fish are moving but the water on our 6.5 acre farm pond was 55 degrees when I checked last Sunday.....no LMB spawning yet. Getting some FA though so applied a round of copper sulfate.....and did hook a few fish off the dock. Pond structure improvement projects this weekend. Getting better every week!!

There are several BG spawning and LMB spawning threads from years past.

Both BG and LMB (most other fish as well) spawn based on temp and photoperiod. Additional secondary (often local) factors are moon phase , weather/floods/muddy water and population dynamics.

Here are some spawning time past thread links
