The indoor tank system has been up and running without fish for a few weeks until I get an overnight shipment of tilapia on Friday. The snails were accidentally introduced from some pond fish and grow happily in the plastic media of the biofilter tank. They make their way out of the biofilter tank via an overflow into the fish tank, but if fish are present don't last long. Doesn't matter what kind of fish they all like to pick them off the tank wall. 
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Well not really but... 
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Throw some RES in there and get them feed trained!! On snails?  What would be the novelty of that?

O.K. silly, I know you knew what I was talking about.  Get 'em going on Optimal and when they get the munchies they can pick off a few snails.

The interesting thing is the snails are removed pronto by the fish and can't be found in short order once there are fish in the system. Apparently bluegill, yellow perch, and tilapia really find then tasty.

Sure enough not long after I planted over 100 blue tilapia fingerlings the snails were wiped out! The tilpia swarmed over the snails like bees on a bear raiding their hive!
