Will be using a floridone product this year. How does the Sonar RTU compare to the discontinued Whitecap? Does it require more? More than one application? I've used the Whitecap in the past and was very happy with its performance.

Not seeing any detailed application rates. Want to use it to control Sago and possibly Bushy Pondweed. Hoping it won't be too hard on my bullrush and spikerush.

Pond is .62 acres and averages 7 feet with a max depth of 9 feet.

I think I used a quart of Whitecap in the past.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

So it takes 11 times the amount of Sonar RTU to be as effective as Whitecap or Sonar A.S.? shocked

(41.7 divided by 3.79 is 11.00).

Cecil, I don't believe so, but I can't answer the question definitively. I hope Kelly would chime in.

I believe RTU is easier to use and less expensive to use in a smaller pond setting. i.e. easier to get the correct dosage.

Remember, there are a lot of people out there that think if a little is good, a lot would be better. And that gets pretty expensive quickly when talking about fluridone in concentrated quantities.

Take EWM for instance.

If it took 1 fl. oz. to treat a pond for that when using Sonar A.S. or 11 fl. oz. of Sonar RTU, which would you feel better about pouring into the pond?

Whitecap is no longer available. Endothall (Aquathol K) would easily take those species out and be cheaper to control. I can give you more information if you'd like.

Thanks JSlade. I already found a good deal on regular Sonar.

Thanks for thinking of me!

When I have questions the guys at New Tech Bio have gone above and beyond to help me when I can't get info quickly on forum. Just a note for anyone else who needs herbicide direction in a hurry...also, their pricing has been pretty competitive in the past. Obviously try to buy from our Pond Boss forum members if you can, but for a big internet store they are pretty personable and helpful in my experience.

Sonar RTU is designed for the do it your self pond owner to just squirt it in. Basically when you go to the hardware store and get roundup ready premix. It is going against the label to just pour in fluridone without mixing. Also I would say its probably the easiest way to lose most of the product if it just moves to the outflow before mixing in the pond. I sell all fluridones but Alligari fluridone is much cheaper than the other Fluridone products. Whitecap is no longer available.

I don't think so, just stating for the benefit of the forum that this organization has been helpful to me in the past for herbicide direction if I needed info ASAP. I think they are now a paid advertiser with Bob, too - so throwing some support their way.

Cecil have you ever purchased from NTB? Where do you historically source your herbicides? Always looking for reliable and affordable sources.

I'm the UPI territory manager for the Gulf States. UPI manufactures endothall-based products (Aquathol and Hydrothol), coppers (Current and Symmetry) and AquaStrike (premix of endothall and diquat). Don't frequent the site too much but going to try to more. Plants, herbicides, and management are sometimes hard to understand, so trying to be a resource by providing accurate and up to date information.
