Inexpensive fountain solution for small (mine is 1
I created a fountain/aeration system for my pond and would like to share the idea with those who don't want to spend $800+ for one. I took a 4/10 hp fountain pump from Home Depot(the type for small, yard sized ponds) and cut the end of the cord off. I then bought a 100' extension cord 12ga wire, and cut off the female end. I used heat shrink fittings to connect the two, then wrapped that with silicone tape, and added a heat shrink wrap over the top of all that. I then used 2" pvc to make a floating base and attached the pump to that allowing around 4' to hang below the surface. I used 3/4" pvc for the out flow with a cap that I drilled several holes in at different angles. The result was a fun and decent looking fountain that aerates and is eye appealing. I hope this can help any out there like me who just can't afford the high dollar pumps and fountains from folks like Kasco etc.

The only thing I would do differently is to make the pvc pipe coming up a little shorter. However this does produce a spray pattern approximately 25'-30' across. I hope this helps somebody! coming up

I really like what you have done! Can you give more information as to the pump you are using?

It is an Everbilt, 4/10 hp., Waterfall Pump I picked up at Home Depot. One other thing I forgot to mention. I attached plumbing tape/strap to the pvc float and the bottom of the pump to allow it to hang down several feet, just to increase the circulation.
I hope it helps you and good luck with your pond.

How do you keep it stationary so the wind wont blow it over?

The weight of the pump hanging down keeps it from flipping over, along with the 2"pvc frame. I also have 2 small ropes tied to it on each side so it doesn't blow around the pond, and can be reeled in and out for routine maintenance.
