I see these perfectly circular holes in the bank of the pond all the time (looks like pipe was driven into ground, pulled out). These are typically 1.5 to 2 inches in diameter. The above picture shows what must have been a tunnel 'clean out'. I've been assuming bull frogs doing this (which I have loads of). Can anyone confirm?

Yes they can. Google images and you will see all kinds of photos of them.

X2 on the crawdad hole (crayfish). Several species around your area...some tunneling some not. Obviously this would be of the tunneling variety.

Yep, crawdad. Bullfrog volcano had certainly piqued my interest, though.

Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT?

Now there's a catchy title--
"Bullfrog Volcano" latest CD from Urban Fishing Commando and the Bryozoans.

Sure to be a success with the younger crowd for the title alone, and with their parents too as all lyrics were crafted by a Genuine English Major.

Not sure if the vegetable oil would work; crawdad motivations can be somewhat difficult to comprehend, as Theo and Shorty explored in this old thread from 2006-

We don't really care why the crawdad crossed the road. We just want to know if the crawdad is on our side of the road, or not. The crawdad is either against us, or for us. There is no middle ground here.

We have reason to believe there is a crawdad, but we have not yet been allowed to have access to the other side of the road.

Although I voted to let the crawdad cross the road, I am now against it!

RALPH NADER
The crawdad's habitat on the other side of the road had been polluted by unchecked industrial greed. The crawdad did not reach the unspoiled habitat on the other side of the road because it was crushed by the wheels of a gas-guzzling SUV.

PAT BUCHANAN
To steal the job of a decent, hardworking American.

JERRY FALWELL
Because the crawdad was gay! Isn't it obvious? Can't you people see the plain truth in front of your face? The crawdad was going to the other side. That's what they call it-the other side. Yes, my friends, that crawdad is gay. And, if you eat that crawdad , you will become gay too. I say we boycott all crawdads until we sort out this abomination that the liberal media whitewashes with seemingly harmless phrases like the other side.

RUSH LIMBAUGH
I don't know why the crawdad crossed the road, but I'll bet it was getting a government grant to cross the road, and I'll bet that somebody out there is already forming a support group to help crawdads with crossing-the-road syndrome. Can you believe this?!? How much more of this can real Americans take? Crawdad crossing the road paid for by their tax dollars. And when I say tax dollars, I'm talking about your money, money the government took from you to build a road for crawdads to cross.

DR SEUSS
Did the crawdad cross the road? Did he cross it with a toad? Yes, the crawdad crossed the road, but why it crossed I've not been told.

ERNEST HEMINGWAY
To die in the rain. Alone.

In my day, we didn't ask why the crawdad crossed the road. Somebody told us the crawdad crossed the road, and that was good enough.

BARBARA WALTERS
Isn't that interesting? In a few moments, we will be listening to the crawdad tell, for the first time, the heartwarming story of how it experienced a serious case of molting, and went on to accomplish its life long dream of crossing the road.

Why did the crawdad cross the road?.... He didn't.

The EPA, emboldened by the passage of recent legislation, decided to try flexing its newfound muscle by making an example out of the crawdad. They declared his habitat a wetlands, which placed it squarely in the realm of "Waters of the United States". He was ordered to cease and desist burrowing, and forcibly evicted.

The crawdad went public with his story, appearing on talk shows, in magazine interviews, and on internet forums. Then one afternoon he was discovered, pincers down, on the asphalt.

There were witnesses of course. The 154,236,488 Gizzard Shad that resided in the 6" of water flowing through the narrow side ditch running alongside the highway, all testified that it was a black suv that stopped, opened the door and shoved the crawdad out before backing up and over his already motionless carapace.

Thus far, no one has been brought to justice, some two weeks after the incident. The 583,257,156 Gizzard Shad have gone into hiding in a private lake, somewhere in Indiana.

And bonus points for "....already motionless carapace".
Mario Puzo couldn't have put it any better.
