I have a 1/2 acre pond in southcentral Illinois that I cannot get to clear up much. I put some gypsum in to settle the clay with little success. I have also expanded the watershed. Would a windmill aerator do me any good? There isn't any electricity close to the pond so I feel this is my only option. If so, which side of the pond should it be placed and can I run it during the freezing winter months without hurting the fish. The pond is egg shaped and farm fields all around with plenty of wind to run the windmill. Any suggestions on where to get a good performing windmill at a decent price?

Several of your questions have been answered in detail previously. Do a search of past posts with key words such as aeration, winter aeration.
If the watershed is not fully vegetated yet and or the shoreline is not stabilized with plant growth then cloudy conditions are probably due to wind mixing of suspended and resuspended soil/clay particles. Aeration is designed to mix and move water. These particles cannot settle out of the water column with constant or frequent aeration. aeration will not help clear a pond that is cloudy from suspended soil/clay particles.
Air from an air compresor can be pushed up to 1000 feet and easily 500 ft without noticable air loss. Main requirement is proper sizing of air delivery line to the compressor. A search will reveal that electric compressors do a much better job of aerating than a windmill. Winter aeration is not necessary in most cases in a 10ft - 12 ft deep new pond if snow is not allowed to accumulate on 30%of the ice for longer than 3 weeks. Searching for info will elaborate on these topics.
