First of all, all the information on my pond can be found here: http://forums.pondboss.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=380362 I just included a schematic in the last post down.

If you don't want to click: ~.46 surface acres, average is around 17' deep, deepest is around 20', bean shaped, 120V electric outlets already next to the pond. It's our drinking water source.

Question: The previous owner left a pump at the house. It's an older Gast DOA-P109-FB. The rear fan blades are all broken off and the rear fan shroud is missing. I haven't plugged it in yet to see if it starts because I didn't want to damage it. First things first: Will this pump move enough air to run a diffuser 17-20' deep? If so, can it be repaired/rebuilt?

If not, what 120V pump would you recommend? Just hoping to reoxygenate the pond, remove some thermoclines, reduce algae, help the fish, etc but primarily keep the water as clean as possible to reduce stress on our purification system.

The Gast DOA series are rated to 60 psi, so that pump will definitely move air down to 20' depth. It's a small pump and won't move a ton of air, but you don't need much for 1/2 acre. They sell repair kits for those, so a rebuild is feasible and the owner's manual describes it.
I'd clean it as much as possible, make sure it turns, then plug it in and see what it does. For a short run, lack of cooling fan won't hurt it. If it won't go at all, then you have to look at start capacitor, open circuits, etc. If it grunts and won't turn, it may be bound up and a teardown may revive it. Or not.

Keep in mind you don't have to have it at the exact 17 to 20 foot mark. If you have it at 15 feet you will still mix most if not all of your water. I am not sure about that pump. I have a Gast 1/3 HP 0523 that works great. Maybe Mr. Cody will chime in as well. He know Gast pumps pretty well!!

You can rebuild just about anything, but will it be as good or better than the original? Sometimes yes, but sometimes it's way too far gone to justify the cost of trying to fix it.

Here is my "Keep in Mind". Quite a few people will spend $5.00 to save a Nickle.

If it makes sense to you, then try fix it. It sounds like it had much better days tho.
