I am having trouble finding anyone to advise me on a large farm pond. I am wanting to build a ten acre pond in Southwest Oklahoma. I have 320 acres just north of the Red River which has two seasonal creeks running across it. It has two old ponds which are currently dry (2013 rainfall was about half of the normal rainfall and so far in 2014, I have measured .75 inches in area that averages 25-26 inches annually). The land is currently being used for cattle but I would like to convert it to a recreational place. I understanding what I am wanting to do is a very expensive undertaking so I want it do right, but I have had trouble finding anyone that can advise me. I seem to be able to find two types of advise: (1) local guys with dozers who basically say, "point where you want it and we will dig it" or (2) civil engineer types out of DFW who think they are building a state funded water sources and basically want all my budget just do the environment impact, hydraulic charting, etc, etc, etc. I would like to find someone who has pond experience to hire as a consultant to design the pond. I can direct the construction with local help if I have a design (I have been in real estate development and construction for twenty years). If anyone can give any advice on how to find someone who can analyze the property and design a pond, I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

First, contact Mike Otto of Otto's Dirt Service.

Mike Otto

Secondly, contact Bob Lusk at 903-564-5372.

They should be able to help you out. If they can not, they probably know someone in the area.

Wow! Thanks. He is my neck of the woods and seems to be the middle of the road type of guy that I am looking for. I appreciate the help.

He's also co-owner of this forum. He doesn't get on here as much as he used to, but I can assure you, he's as nice a guy as they come and knows how to build a pond! Please, keep us posted on the progress of your project. We love to follow along...

Also, if his schedule is booked, he probably has a few people he can recommend.

I really appreciate the help. I went to his web site and he is exactly what I was looking for and he is in the general area of where I am. I don't know how I did not come up with him in my search before. I think those who have wanted to build a quality pond have come up with the same problem I was having about either no advice-just dig or all advice-never get to dig. Thanks to each of you for the help.

Bob and Mike often work as a team on lake design and construction projects. Call either - Bob is close by.
